8/10/2021 : Beast of the East XI Postponed Until 2022 Due to Rise in COVID-19 Cases

After significant player feedback and careful consultation with our venue over potential upcoming restrictions or shutdowns (amid rising Delta cases in NJ), we are unfortunately postponing Beast of the East XI to 2022.

We understand this is a disappointing decision to make as we too have been looking forward to this event. However, we feel it is the responsible decision to make as the health and safety of our beer pong community is our top priority. This was by no means an easy decision for us and took a lot of serious consideration given the size and nature of the event in which social distancing is not possible.

All sign ups and payments will be completely refunded.

We have absolutely every intention of hosting Beast of the East XI some time in early 2022.

Any bids won at BOE X are still completely valid and will be honored for the rescheduled date.

We apologize for any inconveniences this may cause, but felt this was the appropriate time to make the call instead of potentially closer to the date of the event.

We are extremely excited for this weekend's festivities! Make sure to plan ahead and travel safely.

Here is a rough schedule for the weekend:

Friday, February 8th, 2013:

6pm-10pm: Early sign-ins for 2v2 and 6v6 (so you don't have to wake up as early Saturday morning)
7pm: Sign-ins for 3v3 Coed Tournament
8pm: 3v3 Coed Tournament Starts

Saturday, February 9th, 2013:

10am: Captain's meeting for squads
10am: Sign-ins for 2v2 main event
10:30am: Sign-ins for Squad main event
11am-2pm: 2v2 Prelims
3pm-8pm: Squad 6v6 Prelims
9pm-1am: Men's 1v1 and Women's 1v1 Tournaments

For those of you who won qualifiers, the hotel rooms will already be reserved under your names and paid for for Friday and Saturday nights. If you have any issues, let us know.

WE ARE ON A TIGHT TIME SCHEDULE. Know the schedule and when you need to be somewhere. Ignorance is not an excuse. All of the times are pre-posted.

2v2 Main Event Info:

There will be seven prelim rounds each alloted 25 minutes
The top 32 teams will make day 2
We will post the prelim standings as soon as the prelims are over. If there are any descrepancies, it is your responsibility to let us know immediately. If you do not bring it to our attention by 9pm Saturday night then the results will remain uncorrected regardless of the outcome or circumstances.
There will be scorecards given to each team to keep track of your results for all 7 prelim matches. If you lose your scorecard (which also has your schedule on it), you will not get a replacement. So take a picture of it with your phones if you need to. You will have to turn in your scorecard to us at the end of the prelims or else your matches will not count.
To have up-to-date results, the winners of each prelim match will be expected to come up to the scoring table and provide us with their team name (the winning team's team name), the cup differential, and the number of overtimes.
If you do not show up for your game at the pre-determined table and time within 5 minutes of the game time, you will forfeit your game. If one player is there, they may play handicapped until their partner arrives but must start playing at the 5 minute mark and cannot stall the game or it will result in a forfeit. No exceptions.
We are on a strict schedule so there is zero wiggle room

6v6 Main Event Info:

There will be 7 prelim rounds each alloted 40 minutes.
The top 16 squads make day 2.
Each squad will have their schedules in advance.
There will be a scorecard for each match that lists the player pairings and table the game should be played on.
At the beginning of each round, the captains should come up to the scoring table and pick up the scorecard for your match.
Each game is best of 1.
Both captains are required to sign off on the scorecards at the end of each match and one of the captains must turn the scorecard back into the scoring table.
Captains - keep your players in line and make sure they show up for your games. NO FIGHTING.
If a player does not show up within 5 minutes, the game must start without said player and their partner can play handicapped if they choose so. If neither player is present after 5 minutes, the game is forfeited and given a 3 cup cup differential. If a player is playing handicapped, their partner can jump in as soon as they arrive to the table. The game cannot be stalled to give a player time to get there - stalling a game will result in a forfeit.

EXPECTATIONS AND CODE OF CONDUCT:

Fighting is strictly prohibited and will result in immediate removal from the premises and ineligibility to participate in all tournaments. Your partner(s) cannot get subs to replace you. If we win any prizes and are thrown out for any altercations, you will forfeit said prizes. ZERO TOLERANCE.
Damaging or theft of any equipment will also result in removal from the premises and ineligibility to participate in all tournaments. Your partner(s) cannot get subs to replace you.
There are NO CASH GAMES OR FUN GAMES allowed in the ballroom. Keep those to your hotel rooms. The tables in the ballroom are meant strictly for official tournament use only. If we catch you playing cash games, you will be thrown out.
There will be security present throughout the event. If you bring your own alcohol, keep it in your rooms. You cannot bring outside drinks into the ballroom or Miami Mikes

It is with our deepest regret that we will have to postpone the event to a future date. We have exhausted our options and given the circumstances, do not have another option that would work for the majority of the participants in the event. The event will not take place until after the WSOBP but we cannot give an alternative date right now since Miami Mike's is still without power. As soon as we have a new date set, if people are unable to make the event, we will issue refunds. As for qualifier winners, your bids will be transferred to the new event. We are sorry for the inconveniences this has caused everyone but there was no way we could prepare for something like the aftermath of Hurricane Sandy. The key to running a successful event is a balance of fun, healthy competition, lots of organization/preparation, good customer service, honesty/transparency/trust, and bracketology 101.

Fun: why do people play beer pong? how did they start playing beer pong? where did it originate? pong started in a frat basement. It is a simple game and easy to setup, creates just the right amount of competition to make it enjoyable, and gets people drunk. The last part, we can't do much about since we must play with water to keep things safe and avoid liabilities since we run legitimate businesses, but the rest can be created in a safe atmosphere: music, good drink specials, excitement, location (although not always the most important thing but you want to have events in central locations to attract the largest turnout - it is more important to make the place accessible than to make it a destination location (Vegas, AC, etc)), and community. The community aspect is the biggest and most important aspect. People have made so many friends through the pong community that a lot of them attend the regional events just to see the friends they have made even if they don't even play regularly anymore. It is a social experience for them. If you make it fun, your chances of having a successful event will greatly increase.

Healthy Competition: Pong isn't big enough to have different levels of competition like baseball and other organized sports have (little league, high school, minor leagues, major leagues)... With pong, it can be a bit intimidating when new players come in and play against people who are shooting 80%+. It wasn't always this competitive but with higher payouts of tournaments, people started taking it more seriously and now it is more and more difficult for newbies to come in and be competitive... The top players will always bitch but sometimes restrictions are important to promote healthy competition because people need to still feel that they have a chance of winning in order for them to feel it worthwhile to play. If they know they could never win, you will lose out on a lot of players. Prizes for best coed, best all-girl, best rookie team, etc can greatly help get other people to come out and compete. Having multiple side events also helps create variety for players to play with different people, and also give them multiple chances to feel like a winner. Everyone wants to win. Cash prizes aren't always everyone's biggest concern either - trophies can put a smile on a person's face too. In little league everyone received trophies because it made them feel like winners and people need those confidence boosts, no matter how old we get.

Organization/Preparation: You cannot through a successful event together in a weekend. It literally takes months to put together a successful event. I have run large events with 2 months notice and they were not successful. You have to go in knowing that you could lose money. Even if you think you have sponsors who are going to put up prize money, unless you already have that money in hand, don't count on it... Use history as a lesson that you should always prepare for the worse. You are also dealing with drunk people so plan accordingly with that. Make sure to have a security plan, get event/liability insurance, and protect yourself legally. Anything could happen at one of these events. Pong players are lazy so set payment deadlines early enough in advance to leave yourself wiggle room. Don't ever wait until the last minute. Get players to sign waivers but understand that waivers don't mean everything. Use scorecards for each game in case of discrepancies, and use tournament software that can help you run a smooth event. Plan out every second of the event. Try to keep the flow of the event to a schedule. You don't want to keep people waiting for too long between games and you don't want to allow people to wander too far away to the point that they don't show up for their games and you get behind on the schedule. It is ok to break up events (prelims on one day, finals on another day) as with people drinking all day, they get sloppy and forget to show up for games and the length of games always increase as the day goes on. Know that and plan accordingly.

Good Customer Service: Be active in the pong community and make yourself available for questions and information. It will build trust with your players and make them happy. This may be the biggest difference between good organizers and average organizers.

Honesty/Transparency/Trust: You don't have to guarantee prize payouts but be transparent if you are not guaranteeing it because some people will be traveling long and far to get to your events and it isn't fair to them to travel 3000 miles for an event that they thought had a guaranteed payout to find out that only half of what was advertised was being payout. It is ok to advertise a minimum guaranteed amount with a + sign to let people know that the prize amount can go up but provide the breakdown of how many teams you need signed up to offer the higher payouts. And don't include sponsorship money or money the venue is promising to put up in the payout unless you have their money in hand already. If you make a guaranteed payout, you are assuming full risk and need to know that even if your sponsors pull out the day of the event, you still have to pay out what you advertised... It is part of the risk of running the event and you shouldn't run the event if you cannot take this risk. It will build trust with your customers if you pay out what you advertise. Reputation is everything in this industry and if you ruin your reputation, there is no coming back from it. One poor event could ruin it for you. Be careful when you advertise payouts because once it is posted publicly, it is set in stone... if you think you may have to pay out less, then don't advertise a higher amount from the beginning. Post the smaller amount - you can always increase it. If you decrease a prize amount, you will lose trust in the players. Some of them will be paying a lot of money to attend the event and they should have confidence that when they purchase their plane tickets that the prize amounts they saw advertised are guaranteed and will be paid out. Don't advertise an exact money amount at all if it isn't guaranteed. Saying it is a $5,000 tournament but in the fine print below, that it is dependent on having at least 50 teams, is false advertising because pong players don't always read the fine print. Don't advertise a prize amount that isn't guaranteed. Bottomline. If $2,000 is all that is guaranteed, advertise it as $2,000+. It is better to gain the trust of your players and they will be more pleasantly surprised if you end up paying more than if you end up not paying out what you said you will. The players don't always care about the prize amount (at least not the ones already part of the pong community), a lot of them care more about the fun aspect of the event and seeing their friends. The top players are probably the only ones that care about the prize amount and you can't always please those people. You need to focus on the 97% of the players who don't win tournaments as you cannot run a successful event without them attending too. Listen to them. Listen to your customers. Hear what they want. Not just the top players but the average players. Have side events that appeal to the average players and that create fun.

Bracketology 101: Know how to run a tournament. Know how the bracket works. In a double elimination tournament, there are more rounds of games in the losers bracket than there are in the winners bracket. Don't play all the winners bracket games before you play the losers bracket games because then players in the winners bracket could be waiting even longer between their games. For every winners bracket round, two losers bracket rounds need to take place to keep a healthy flow of the tournament. Get the teams in the losers bracket out to thin out the tournament and make it easier to manage. Make sure to use software that allows you to keep track of who is playing on what tables and what tables are open. Use a paper bracket to allow players to track the progress of the tournament without having to ask you where in the tournament you are. Use the paper bracket in addition to your software, not as a replacement. A good flow for a tournament makes for a good event. Have a lot of extra cups and balls and racks because you do not want to run out of equipment.

Beast of the East 2012 is now upon us! This weekend is going to be
LEGENDARY! You guys have helped grow Beast of the East into one of
the largest tournaments in the country!!! We have 28 guy squads and
10 girl squads competing this weekend! I would like to quickly go
over the schedule for the weekend and our expectations...

Schedule:
Friday:
2v2 $1,000 tournament is now a $1,500 tournament with $1,000 being
paid out to first place!
Sign-ins: 7:30pm

1v1 Girls WSOBP Satellite tournament

BOTE Main Event (Guys and Girls) Prelims

We are on a strict schedule and will be starting promptly so please
plan your transportation accordingly as we will not be waiting for
anyone this year. There will be 25 minute rounds with half the teams
playing in each round. If you are more than 5 minutes late to your
match, you WILL receive a forfeit. We will be strict about this.
Everyone will receive their schedules for the day when they sign-in.

Consolation WSOBP Satellite Tournament

Start Time: 11:45am (or whenever the play-in rounds of the Bracket
play are over)
The consolation tournament is open to everyone not in the top 8 squads
of the guys or girls BOTE bracket play. There are no restrictions
otherwise.

Expectations for this weekend:
- Fighting, damaging equipment, damaging the venue, damaging others'
property, or disrespecting our staff or the staff of Miami Mikes will
not be tolerated. We will have a zero tolerance policy and you will
be kicked out of the event, leaving your squad to play handicapped
without you. If you are kicked out of the event, you will not be
eligible to receive any prizes. This policy will be enforced the
entire weekend, not just during game play.
- We are not here to babysit. Act mature and be respectful of others.
We understand that there are rivalries and alcohol involved but that
does not excuse inappropriate behavior. Trash talk is part of the
game but racial, religious, and gender related slurs or trash talk
will get you kicked out of the event.
- Captains are responsible for their squads. We don't need a million
people coming to us with questions... We will talk to the captains and
they are responsible for relaying the messages to everyone else.
- The most important thing is that everyone has FUN!!! This weekend is
going to be a blast and we intend to do everything in our power to
make it a memorable event.

Rules:
WSOBP rules and equipment will be used for all events this weekend.
The 3v3 tournament has slightly modified rules. Check the event page
on facebook or eastcoastbeerpong.com for the rules.

EastCoastBeerPong.com should be checked for any important
announcements, prelim results, etc. We may be streaming the event
live like last year but it is not definite yet. If we do, a link will
be posted on our facebook page and on the website.

Online sign-ups will remain open for the 3v3 tournament until tomorrow
night. Sign-ups for the $1k and the Girls WSOBP Satellite will close
tonight but we will still accept sign-ups in person tomorrow. There
are still spots available for both events. Sign-ups for all side
events are on eastcoastbeerpong.com

5/19/2011 : Beast of the East 2011

East Coast Beer Pong has once again come together to bring you one of the best events of the year. The 2011 Beast of the East will be a chance to prove once again which region on the East Coast (and MidWest) is loaded with the most beer pong talent. Last year the NJ War Machine took home the crown and the bragging rights after a thrilling finals rematch with the 2009 Champion Long Island Squad.

Please arrive by 11am at the latest to sign-in

Noon Start (ballroom will be open earlier for practice)

Cost: $65 per person (squads of 10)

Rules: WSOBP

Equipment: BPong

Hotel Cost: $65 per night (use group Beast of the East)

Roster Submission Deadline: MARCH 31, 2011 ***
Squad Payments Deadline: APRIL 10, 2011 ***

We will also be having a tournament following the BOE and are considering the following options:

Official Beast of the East Side Tournament:

Immediately following the Beast of the East we will be hosting a 3 on 3 tournament.

Cost: $45 per team ($15/person) Online $60 per team ($20/person) day of
Prize: Dependant upon number of entries.

Restrictions: Players on the list below may NOT play on the same team.
No more than 2 players from each squad on a team.

Rules:
15 Cups
Game starts with team shooting either "first" 2 balls or the next 3
If all 3 players make their shots team receives 2 rollbacks
One rerack at 6 cups
Rebuttal will be alternating shoot till you miss with one ball (exceptions for turns with one cup)
OT will be 6 cups
